SeaStairs for Hunt 74 M/V SURF

GMT Composites delivered a new set of their carbon fiber SeaStairs boarding system for a 74’ Hunt designed motor vessel named Surf. The boat under-went a major re-fit at New England Boatworks in Portsmouth RI. The owner had Surf custom built about 15 years ago with an innovative design parameter to include full wheel chair access. She was originally 68’, but she is being extended to 74’ as part of the refit. The owner wanted to include a “Z-Lift” into the newly extended swim platform in the transom that will be capable of raising the platform up to eight feet.

The owner decided the time was right to improve side boarding on the vessel as well. GMT visited the owner on-site at NEB to see first hand what they were looking to accomplish, and some of the challenges faced in mounting a removable platform to the hull. They were looking for multiple mounting options and easy storage. The Hunt hull has a wide rub rail, and step down access into the cockpit is a fairly shallow custom depth. GMT designed the stairs with a top loading platform and seven steps with the ability to mount in four locations on the hull. Total weight for the unit came in right at 50 lbs which makes for easy handling and long term storage on top of the pilot house.
